Hey there food fans! It's time to eat your veggies. Today on Episode 150 we are talking to Heidi Herman, author of The Hidden Vegetables Cookbook: 90 Tasty Recipes for Veggie-Averse Adults. Heidi takes us on her cooking and literary journey and we talk all about the ways we love to use vegetables to add nutrition and fiber to everyday items. Rather than urging readers to learn to love spinach or zucchini, Herman’s cookbook works with existing taste preferences. The recipes cleverly disguise vegetables in familiar dishes, giving adults a way to enjoy the foods they love while quietly boosting their daily nutrition. Everything in this cookbook looks amazing and we can't wait to report back. We had a great time getting to know Heidi and are eager to support her work. We hope you will enjoy this. Heidi Herman Profile Photo

Heidi Herman is an indie-published author of nine books across four genres, including children’s, women’s fiction, and non-fiction, whose path to writing was paved by a lifelong love of reading and a career as rich as her storytelling.

After thirty years as a top-tier telecommunications cost management consultant, Heidi channeled her broad business expertise into entrepreneurship, running a successful restaurant before co-founding Hekla Publishing with her mother, a fellow author, to promote and distribute their combined titles celebrating their Icelandic heritage. In 2025, she added the imprint Pink Viking Press, dedicated to women’s fiction.

Her work has earned notable recognition: a 2017 Gourmand World Cookbook Award, 2025 Gourmand Finalist for the Hidden Vegetables Cookbook, a 2018 American Fiction Award Finalist nod for Chick Lit/Women’s Lit, the 2018 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Gold Winner in the Romance Category, and a B.R.A.G. Medallion for her motivational non-fiction, On With the Butter! Her most recent release, Crossfire, launches her Women’s Fiction series, Life’s A Rodeo.

An Arizona snowbird from South Dakota, Heidi is an active member of the Arizona Authors Association, the Non-Fiction Authors Association, Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, Western Writers of America, and the Women’s Fiction Writers Association. These days, Heidi writes women's fiction, supports fellow indie authors on their own publishing journeys, and still finds time for motivational speaking, travel, and kitchen experiments.
